About

Claybrooke Magna is a medium-sized village in Leicestershire and the Parish Council meets 10 times per year( not June and August ) to discuss village matters. Meetings are held in the village hall at 7.00 pm.

Members of the public are very welcome to attend Parish Council meetings. At each meeting, there is a section for Public Participation which allows time for any issue or matter relating to the parish to be raised.

Meeting dates are listed on the calendar on this website. A full set of minutes from the latest meeting can be viewed here, or on the village notice board outside the Village Hall.

What do Parish Councils do?

The Parish Council is a statutory authority within the Local Government Framework influencing, where necessary, issues affecting higher level County and District/Borough Authorities. In our case, this means Harborough District Council and Leicestershire County Council.

Each year you make a small contribution towards Parish Council spending through the Council Tax demand. This money is used by the Parish Council to provide services in the village including:

  • assist in the maintenance of the village hall
  • maintenance of the village green
  • maintenance of the playground
  • Upkeep of the memorial trees and bus shelter
  • Parish Councils are also asked for their opinion on issues that affect the village – such as planning applications.

Geography and Transport

Claybrooke Magna is situated in the middle of England and has a historic transport system. Watling Street existed before the Romans, Mere Lane (which runs by Magna Park) was a route in Neolithic times and the A5 became the main road from London to Holyhead and onwards to Dublin.

The motorway network serves us well. Junction 20 of the M1 is four miles away in Lutterworth, and the M69 is about the same distance away towards Hinckley. The M6 is about six miles away towards Rugby. The village is in what is known as ‘The Golden Triangle’ as nowhere is very far and so houses one of the biggest distribution centres in Europe (Magna Park).

Rail links from Rugby are good with a manageable commute to London. Other employment opportunities can be found in Leicester, Coventry, Birmingham, Hinckley, Nuneaton, Rugby, Northampton, Lutterworth or Market Harborough.

Despite all this, Claybrooke Magna remains a peaceful, beautiful village.
